For modern international world order, a phenomenon of failed states is a substantial challenge. First of all, it’s related to the threat to international security. Namely, international community deals with the challenges related to illegal migration, illegal arms and drugs trade, terrorist groups activities, piracy, humanitarian crisis, etc. Failed states have a predisposition to the spread of such threats, since their governmental institutions lose power monopoly, do not have control over state land and cannot provide security and basic needs for its citizens. Yemen is an example of a failed state and a hot spot in the Arab world. The situation in the country became destabilizing force not only in the Middle East, but in the entire world. Article’s goal is to analyze Yemen as a failed state. Theoretical and methodological basis includes the following methods: analysis, synthesis, chronological, apprehensive, event-analysis, etc. Key aspects of a failed state phenomenon in in the international relations are described in the research and on the grounds of the theoretical approach towards this phenomenon, causes and effects of the Yemen’s failed state are portrayed, focusing on the security challenges. It was discovered that the civil war played an important role in converting Yemen into a failed state and its prolonged period is related to third parties conflict involvement. The UN has made multiple attempts to stop the war and the humanitarian crisis. However, the efforts were not successful, as currently the parties have significant differences. Moreover, considering war’s geopolitical scale, conflict resolution seems unlikely in the nearest future, since the outside parties are trying to make as many as possible gains for themselves. It is an important task for the international community to not only stop the war and the humanitarian crisis as the results of failed state consequences, but also to eliminate its reasons in the future.
