Abstract

The article analyzes the history and current state of the Visegrad Group (V4) - a regional association of Central European countries created in 1991, which includes Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The study focuses on the political, economic and social changes taking place in Central Europe and the European Union in general, as well as on the role of the V4 in contemporary European politics. The historical development of the Visegrad Four is divided into stages that influenced the formation of modern political and economic relations between the member countries. The current role of the Visegrad Four in the context of European politics requires a detailed study, since the V4 acts not only as a regional association, but also as an important subject of international relations that influences political decisions in the European Union. The analysis of the historical stages of development of the Visegrad Group showed that one of the priority tasks is cooperation between the member countries to achieve the set goals. The article examines the key points and conclusions of the Visegrad Four summit in 2004, where important steps were taken for the further development of cooperation between member states after their accession to the EU. An overview of the current state of the V4 highlights key aspects of its activities and impact on regional and international politics, including new challenges and opportunities arising in the current geopolitical context. The program of the Czech presidency in the V4 for 2023-2024, which focuses on supporting Ukraine, innovative economy and a safe society, as well as the role of the Visegrad Fund in financing projects for the development of the region, is highlighted. The strategic priorities of the Czech V4 chairmanship, which include countering disinformation, strengthening energy security and promoting people-to-people contacts, are discussed in detail, emphasizing the importance of the human dimension in regional cooperation.
