Abstract

The article analyzes the role and significance of Ukrainian and cross-border nominations of material cultural and natural heritage and intangible cultural heritage which, in accordance with their uniqueness, are included in the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and also traces their influence as a kind of Ukrainian characters to enhance the positive image of Ukraine in the international arena. The methodology of the study is based on the principles of objectivity and historicism, which involves the consideration of individual processes in the context of their development and connection with the relevant domestic and international institutions. The general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis and generalization allowed revealing the essence and significance of the events for the Ukrainian state in the context of its cultural progress. It is covered on the basis of sources and personal participation of the authors in the preparation of the nomination dossier, and the passage of all stages of nomination, the complex procedure for including objects in the UNESCO World Heritage List on the example of a unique Ukrainian object ‒ Residence of Metropolitans of Bukovyna and Dalmatia, in the walls of which for more than seventy years Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University is located. The UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Ukraine are one of the important components of improving the country's image in the international arena, especially in today's conditions. Presentation of the best examples of material and non-material heritage, which emphasize the uniqueness and uniqueness of the Ukrainian heritage, the national identity of the nation, contribute to close cooperation with various international institutions in the field of protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage. A special place among the Ukrainian UNESCO sites belongs to the Residence of the Metropolitans of Bukovyna and Dalmatia. It is thanks to the symbiosis of the styles and cultures of the peoples who inhabited Bukovyna that the residence became a kind of visiting card of the “multicolored and multilingual” capital of the region ‒ Chernivtsi. This is the only facility in Ukraine, which simultaneously performs a dual function: on the one hand, the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University as a Centre for education, science and spirituality of the region, and on the other hand, the Residence of the Metropolitans of Bukovyna and Dalmatia as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
