Abstract

A characteristic feature of Ukrainian foreign policy during its formation was the founding of partnership relations between Ukraine and many countries. Canada was the first country to establish a “special” partnership. What is this “feature” in contrast to the concept of “difference”? Obviously, this feature is due to many similar trends in the history of the development of Ukraine and Canada, in contrast to relations with other countries. The peculiarity of the Ukrainian-Canadian relations lies in the fact that the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada plays a large role in their development. A study of these special Ukrainian-Canadian relations shows that despite the change of governments and global transformations of the international environment, Canada was and remains the most reliable and consistent partner of Ukraine in supporting its state sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, democracy, economic development and prosperity. Canada for Ukraine is a certain example of a social state that pursues a balanced peaceful foreign policy aimed at strengthening both national and international security. The article highlights the main aspects of the implementation of the special partnership between Ukraine and Canada in the field of security and defense, analyzes the solid legal framework on which Ukrainian-Canadian relations are developing in this area. Particular attention is paid in this article to issues that have been ignored by many publications on the topic of Ukrainian-Canadian relations. These are issues of joint actions of Ukraine and Canada in the field of international security and Canada’s assistance in strengthening national security and defense of Ukraine in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
